    Thick oil for Hyundai Getz

I changed engine oil of my new Getz at 2500 to shell helix 20W-50 mineral oil. Hyundai recommends 20W-40 for Getz. Later I discovered that shell helix 20-50 is thick oil, mainly suitable for older vehicles. On internet, I read that thicker oils are not good for new cars as it hinders the free flow of pistons and not good for run in of the car. Should I change my oil? If so, should I go for Hyundai oil, i believe Castrol or some other oil?

If you are keen on changing synthetic oil, pick up Mobil 1 (5w50) or you could also try Shell Helix 5W50. Shell 5w50 grade oil has become a rare commodity now. Last I checked 3/4 weeks none of the outlets had it and all I could find was 15w50 grade.

Please do not go for Synthetic oil till your engine has run in. Engine run in process would be incomplete if you go for Synthetic oil. Stick to the manufacturer recommended mineral oil till at least 10000 kms of run.

I had gone for shell mineral oil, not synthetic oil. My query is regarding the grade of the oil. Any issues with using thicker oil on a new car? I intend to go for synthetic only after 10000 km.

I believe itís imperative that one sticks to an oil with the grade same as the one as suggested by the manufacturers. Oil with more viscosity might hamper a smooth running in of the engine components. But then, Castrol GTX, which is used for many of the petrol cars, has the 20w-50 grade. So I don't think it would be a problem if you are using a Shell mineral oil of 20w-50 grade. Rest I would say is your call. Hope I haven't confused you more!

We bought a Hyundai Getz about 5 months ago. We took it for the first service aound 2,000 kms. I don't think they did anything during this service other than wash the exterior and clean the interiors of the car. The car now has about 6,000 kms on it, when should I take it for next service and what can I expect during this time, I am hoping atleast an oil change. Any advice would be much helpful.....

You need to check your manual provided by the service centre. I think second service is at 5000 Kms or 6 Months.
