What should be the minimum ground clearance

As now a day’s road in India are becoming worst as there are many speed breakers and pot holes that if we are not aware of any the car touches the speed breaker. So i just wanted to know what’s the minimum ground clearance of any car.

If you are talking about a sedan or a hatchback car for the bad roads it must be 1800mm, but till i know very few cars have that much of ground clearance. So actually 170mm is pretty good. But i think only ground clearance is not required because if you have a long car means if there distance between the front tyre and the back tyre is more then it may be the problem that the bumper may touch the ground when you pass a speed breaker or a pothole.

As you said that all sedan and hatchback cars gives a minimum of 170mm ground clearance then why Honda Jazz and Skoda Superb gives 160mm and 158mm respectively.

Yes you are right cars like Honda city; Honda Jazz etc has 160mm. But as you can see that 160mm and 1700 it is a matter of only 10mm. But yes it does make some kind of difference. Therefore I have mentioned in my previous post that car length also do affect. As it affects the stability it is not possible to increase the ground clearance. But for SUV it is totally different. As they have a heavier chassis the reliability is maintained wit more ground clearance.

Yes all the points told by the above user is good and perfect but I need to add something to it that the rigidity of the suspension also has an important role for car safety. Any car having good ground clearance and having soft suspension when having load can occur some problems also.

Ground clearance should be decided by you if you are leaving in metro cities then 160mm ground clearance is good enough but if you are leaving in a small town then 180-190mm ground clearance would also not be useful that is why you find more sedan cars in Metro town and SUV and hatchback are mainly found in Small towns.

I think 190mm is too much as I have Maruti SX4 and its ground clearance is 185mm and it is awesome till date I have never touched my car on the road. I think 175 is good ground clearance.
