Need a car in range of 6 to 8 lakhs

I am planning to buy a new car and my budget is but 6 to 8 lac, am a doctor by profession and my usage will be less than 200km a month, I hardly hit the high ways. I was thinking but i 20 and new swift 2011, need suggestions in this regard. And how important is ABS in choosing a model, as there is some 75,000 variation in price when it comes to a model with and without ABS in i20.

Can you mention your preferences like what you are looking for in the car for e.g. good fuel efficiency, more space, low maintenance etc. it would be helpful in making a good suggestion since there are many cars in the range that you mention?

200 km/month petrol will be the suggestion. For you usage, I think the Ritz Vxi will be sufficient. Incase space is not a concern then you can think the wagon R top end. You will be relaxed is the city and occasional highway run too. Cars like the swift and even the Ritz will offer more value if used more particularly on the highway. Especially the i20. ABS will be of use on the highways so if you can afford it please go for this. I think ABS is obtainable on Ritz? Check and do update. The big petrol cars would not offer good FE when used continuously in the city.

Thanks for your replies, I would like to know, how important is ABS in choosing a model, as there is some 70,000 variation in a model with and without ABS and the showroom guy has told me that, it is not going to be of much use as most of my usage is going to be within the city as we hardly exceed the speed of 50kmph in our traffics.

ABS is a security feature and is a good-to-have attribute. I say good-to-have and not must-have here the reason being if you have the extra money then it makes more sense to go for ABS and if you don’t you can do without it. ABS essentially stops the wheels from locking when the brakes are applied real hard and this prevents the car from Skidding. It is very useful during rainy seasons, wet surfaces and places where the car might not get a good grip like presume gravels on road. It is very useful if there is some high speed driving involved or highway run involved. Since you say you would not touch the highways (and I hope you do not speed up much in the city limits) you may or may not opt for it.

You had selected the nice car i20 was a car of the year. As per the ABS technology i think it is used only during the highways or during the speeding the car. If your driving the car in normal speed in city then I thinks you don’t need an ABS system. Now it’s up to you what you select.
